What Types of Conditions Does the Sleep Center Treat?

Circadian Rhythm Disorders: When the body’s internal clock does not work properly or is out of sync. There are several types of disorders, but all involve problems falling asleep or staying awake at desired or socially appropriate times.

Hypersomnia: A condition where a person suffers from excessive sleepiness and has trouble staying awake during the day.

Insomnia: A sleep disorder that makes it difficult for people to fall asleep or stay asleep. People with insomnia have difficulty falling asleep, or they wake up often during the night and have trouble going back to sleep.

Narcolepsy: A chronic sleep disorder that causes a person to suddenly fall asleep. It can also cause a number of physical problems, including slurred speech and muscle weakness.

Restless Legs Syndrome: Unpleasant or uncomfortable sensations in the legs and the irresistible urge to move them. This is often most severe when a person is resting in bed.

Parasomnia: This is a category of sleep disorders that include sleepwalking, night terrors, nightmares, sleep paralysis, sleep talking, bedwetting and more.

Sleep Apnea: A serious sleep disorder where breathing repeatedly stops and starts. Long-term sleep apnea can cause some serious health risks.

The center has full accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Our staff physician is Board-Certified in Sleep Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. We have a full team of experienced NPs, PAs and sleep technologists.

Our center offers extensive follow-up to ensure compliance and benefit with CPAP equipment and medication.

Dr. Malcolm A. Smith

Dr. Smith is a pulmonologist who specializes in sleep disorders for Collom & Carney Clinic Association. He has a number of board certifications, including the American Board of Internal Medicine in Critical Care Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine in Pulmonary Disease and American Board of Internal Medicine in Sleep Medicine. Dr. Smith is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
